What is the Buddy Walk®?

Over the past 17 years, 26,615 attendees have participated and supported individuals with Down syndrome at the Down Syndrome Association of Central New York’s annual two mile Buddy Walk®. The walk has grown from 520 attendees in 1999 to more than 2,000 attendees in 2015. The goal of the Buddy Walk® is to promote acceptance of and advocacy for people with Down syndrome.

The Buddy Walk® was developed by the National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS) in 1995 to celebrate Down Syndrome Awareness Month in October and to promote acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome. The Buddy Walk® has grown from 17 walks in 1995 to nearly 300 Walks planned for 2016 worldwide. In 2015, nearly $14 million was raised nationwide to benefit local programs and services, as well as national advocacy and public awareness initiatives of NDSS that benefit all individuals with Down syndrome.

It is a wonderful, heart-warming event in which people from coast to coast and around the world participate each year! Won’t you come and be part of the Down Syndrome Association of Central New York’s Buddy Walk®?
